Katherine Thomson
Katherine began her award-winning career in the theatre in 1982; her writing credits include: DIVING FOR PEARLS (1991), BARMAIDS (1991), FRAGMENTS OF HONG KONG (1995), KING TIDE (1997), NAVIGATING (1997), THIS HOSPITAL IS MY COUNTRY and MAVIS GOES TO TIMOR, KAYAK (2001) and HARBOUR (2004).
Katherine's extensive television screenwriting credits include telemovies HOUSE OF HANCOCK (Winner, 2015 AWGIE Original Telemovie), SCHAPELLE, BLACKJACK, HALIFAX FP, and series AUSTRALIA: THE STORY OF US, AUSTRALIA ON TRIAL, KILLING TIME, EAST WEST 101, SATISFACTION, WILDSIDE, GRASS ROOTS, FALLEN ANGELS, SNOWY and GP. She is the Australian co-writer of ANSWERED BY FIRE, which won her the Gold AWGIE in 2006. Other credits include documentary series called DARWIN’S BRAVE NEW WORLD for which Katherine was nominated for an AWGIE for Best Documentary.
She was the writer for feature documentary UNFOLDING FLORENCE – THE MANY LIVES OF FLORENCE BROADHURST directed by Gillian Armstrong which screened at Sundance Film Festival in January 2006 and the winner of the 2006 Queensland Premier’s Literary Award. Katherine’s most recent collaboration with Gillian Armstrong is the feature documentary WOMEN HE’S UNDRESSED about the Australian costume designer Orry Kelly.
In 2006 Katherine was awarded The Australian National Playwrights Centre Award for her substantial contribution to the Australian theatre industry.
